Cats can remember their names: Japanese study

Japanese study says that cats can remember their names

Cats are cute, aren’t they? Did you know that they can bond deeply with humans? Well, recent research has proved it.

Scientists have run done numerous researches and they have found that they can communicate with humans. They can also track our movements if we are not around them.

Research study

We never realised that they can be nice companions. They can do much more than we can imagine. They can recognise their own names.

In recent research in Japan, scientists have discovered that cats can recognise the names of other cats whom they know. Also, they know the names of people who live in the house. It may be strange but it is true.

Research study on cats

The researchers studied cats who lived in cat dwellings or the domestic feline who live in houses or cat cafes in Japan.

During the test, the researchers present an image of a familiar cat from the same house or cafe in front of the cat. Along with the image, a recording of the owner’s voice taking the name was also played.

Result of the research

As a result, the felines from domestic households spent a long time staring at the computer screen when the owner says a different name. Maybe, because they got puzzled or intrigued by the mismatch of the cat’s image and name. On the other hand, cats from the cat cafe didn’t show any delay at the computer during the experiments. The reason was that they lived in dwellings with numerous cats.

According to the scientists, the cats living with more people have more opportunities to hear names being used than cats living with fewer people. They can remember the names more accurately.

The researchers have said that there is more to know about the mechanism behind social learning in cats. The research is still on.
