Sikh prayer books in the British military after a century!
Recommended for Preparatory Grades
Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, Sikh soldiers in the British Army used special books to pray and seek guidance. These prayer books, known as Nitnem Gutkas, were like magic guides that helped the soldiers stay connected to their beliefs.
But then, for a hundred years, these books disappeared, like hiding little elves. But guess what? Now, after all those years, the Sikh military is bringing back these magical books!
Sikh Soldiers Reunite with Legendary Prayer Books
- Major Daljinder Singh Virdee, a brave soldier in the British Army, has been working really hard for two whole years to make this happen. Wow, he must be a superhero! The British Ministry of Defense wants to make sure that Sikhs in the military can easily follow their religion. So, they decided to give them Nitnem Gutkas to keep the magic alive!
- These books are extra special! They are made with strong, waterproof material, just like superhero capes. The Royal Navy and Royal Air Force Gutkas are colored navy blue, like the sky and the sea, while the British soldiers’ prayer books have camouflage covers to hide like sneaky spies. To move these precious books, the military used a special vehicle, like a secret treasure transporter. They made sure these magical books were safe and sound!
- The Nitnem Gutkas took a little trip to the Central Gurdwara temple library in London, where they rested for a while. Then, on a magical day called October 28, they were officially given to the soldiers in the military. Hooray!
- Can you imagine how happy the Sikh soldiers must be to have their prayer books back? It’s like finding hidden treasure or seeing a rainbow after a rainy day. These special books are more than just words; they hold the teachings of their guru, like a superhero’s secret mission instructions.
- So, my little friends, the Sikhs in the British military are now superheroes with magical prayer books by their side. Thanks to Major Singh Virdee and the kind people in the British Ministry of Defense, the Nitnem Gutkas are back in action! They will guide and protect the soldiers, just like superheroes’ best friends.
- And with that, our magical story ends, but the adventures of the Sikh soldiers with their Nitnem Gutkas have just begun! Keep spreading kindness and making magic, just like Major Singh Virdee, and who knows what wonders you might bring back after a hundred years! The end, or shall I say, the new beginning!
