Chhattisgarh teacher develops blended learning module
Chhattisgarh became a state of India officially on 1 November 2000. Before that, it had been a part of Madhya Pradesh. At the time, the state lacked proper educational infrastructure. However, as of 2017, the literacy rate in Chhattisgarh was 86.4%.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, a teacher in Chhattisgarh has developed a unique blended learning module for the students. The blended module included both the techniques of online and offline learning.
The teacher is K Sharda and she is a resident of Bhilai in the Durg district of Chhattisgarh. She is a middle school Math teacher. K Sharda is also paralysed from the waist due to polio. However, this has not stopped her from being a brilliant educator. She believes a teacher should develop an environment that binds students’ attention to the subjects that they study. And So she has used blended learning modules to keep the students engaged in different activities.
Sharda has experimented with the teaching modules and also used different tools to bring better outcomes for the students. She believes that everyone has been affected by the pandemic and wanted to help students and teachers overcome the learning crisis. And therefore, she has found many innovative ways to communicate with her students. Moreover, her efforts have been recognized by the state government.
Sharda’s efforts amidst the pandemic
Sharda believes that every student has their own pace to learn new things. So, she lets them flow at their own pace, learning things on their own. She believes that students shouldn’t be afraid of making mistakes, because after all, they will only learn a lesson from their mistakes.
Sharda has named her classrooms ‘happy classrooms’. In order to make learning more fun, she has also made cartoon videos, podcasts and has also created a YouTube channel. She has included storytelling and moral lessons in her multiple teaching-learning modules. Sharda believes that learning should be made fun-filled and unique so that the students are pushed to think and learn more. Under her new module, she also conducts regular assessment tests on the students’ performance and takes parents’ feedback into account. As such, her system has been a great success.
Teachers can make a big difference in the lives of their students and K Sharda’s story is an inspiration to us all.
