An Unpromising Life

Welcome to another chapter of Roseanne Rubin’s boring life. You know what? Just call me Rosie. I am a 12-year-old middle schooler. Not to brag but I am good at drawing and writing stories cuz they are the only way I can express myself. Why the only way? *sigh* Well, I am a shy and clumsy girl who doesn’t know how to express feelings practically. And my friends? You rather say it ‘an only friend’, who is Joyce Costa. She is kind, confident, and friendly. I really admire her! Making such good friends is difficult and for me, it often seems pointless to make friends cuz all I know is one day I would have to bid goodbye to them. It makes me feel like an unworthy friend at times.
My dad, James Rubin is an accountant and he is the most handsome~! But the only problem I have with him is that HIS.JOB.IS.TRANSFERABLE! Well looks like it doesn’t sound much to you but, it is a lot more than ‘MUCH’ for me. Arghh! I am completely done with this transfer thing. Honestly, at times I feel like a nomad. Every 2 or 3 years, I end up finding myself at a new home, a new city, and most importantly a new SCHOOL! Oh! Come on, this is the real reason for me to leave my old friends. I have to go to a new school and make some not-so-good temporary friends. I understand that Dad has to do this to earn a living but what about me? Life completely sucks.
Presently, I am on my way home from school after a fun and tiring day with Joy (Yeah! That’s how I call Joyce). I go to school to meet up with her rather than studying. And here I go! I am finally hom—WAIT! No, no .. WTH! No! I never came back from school to see this day again. The furniture is getting packed? And? Guessed it right WE.ARE.TRANSFERING.AgAiN!! I am going to run far away and never come back home. No way I can leave this place.
I was almost about to turn back to run away but, mom saw me. “Hey Sweetheart, You’re home! Come here, we have a surprise for you.” My mom, Joanne Rubin exclaimed from the verandah.
“Yes mom” I responded gloomily while approaching her. She pulled me into her embrace and pulled away and said “Rosie, we’re going to Los Angeles!” She was almost jumping in excitement while I stood there dumbfounded, deciding on how to express my annoyance. I wanted to burst out but, ended up saying just “OK, Mom”.
“Are you not happy my dear?” she questioned me sadly.
“Who said I am not? Of course, I am. In fact, I am very excited” I replied while flashing a fake smile and controlling my anger. Like WHAT.ON.EARTH!It’s only been 2 years since we transferred from New York to San Francisco and again we are off to Los Angeles? What else can I expect from my unpromising life?
