The Science Month!

“I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.”

‘Every child is a different kind of flower. And altogether make this world a beautiful garden.’

Each child is special. Their uniqueness lies, as much as in their skills and talents, as in their questions, imaginations and sense of wonder. Every child sees the world differently and brimming with umpteen possibilities. It is a different matter that sometimes as adults we tend to overlook how exceptional and uncommon each child is. And thus, there is no better occasion than Children’s Day to acknowledge the individuality of each child.

Surprise your child, share your child’s special story, your message or a card for her/ him.

Here is more about Children’s Day!

World Children’s Day – 20 November

World Children’s Day is celebrated on 20th November. Established by the United Nations it is celebrated to improve the welfare of children across the world. The day reminds us to promote and spread awareness of child rights and build a better world for the children. Like every year this year too UNICEF has various activities lined up that open up conversations around creating a sustainable world for our children. It invites young voices for ideas, parents to learn about child rights and teachers to participate in lesson plans.

The UN for this year invites youngsters to join the #voicesofyouth illustrations challenge. As Children’s Day approaches this challenge encourages children to draw their interpretation of a world, they want to build post-COVID. For more details about this year’s theme and initiatives check out the official UN website.

Children’s Day in India – 14 November

Children’s Day in India is celebrated on 14th November each year. It marks the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. Chacha Nehru (as called by kids) was a visionary and very fond of children. He knew that children formed the foundation of a society and was often heard saying, ‘the children of today will make the India of tomorrow’.

Children’s Day is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm and fun, especially in schools. Teachers and parents take extra care to make their kids feel happy and special on this day. Kids wait for this day as there are Children’s Day wishes, songs, dramas and gifts pouring in. On that note, what are you planning to do this Children’s Day for your little ones? As parents or educators, how would you like to wish them to feel unique or special?

Why is each child special?

Everyone is special and different. However, the emphasis is more on children because they are vulnerable and innocent. Children tend to believe whatever they are told with conviction. They look up to adults and value their opinions and thoughts. But if as parents or teachers we shun them away or break their confidence it can have a lifelong impact. Also, comparing kids, condescending upon them, ignoring and neglecting them can have adverse and damaging effects on the child’s personality.

Thus, it is important to recognize that each child is unique. Every kid has his/her own perspective, a prism of reality and creativity. Some may be good in sports, some in arts, some in science or some in business. There could be kids who are orators, others dreamers. Children who are loud and expressive, some shy and conservative. But each child has something special that lights up their eyes and brings a smile to their faces. And it is the duty of every parent, teacher and educator to blossom and nurture the skills, imagination, intelligence and sensitivity of each child to maximum potential. Moreover, to make every child see their worth and give them the assurance, guidance and helping hand to grow.

How can you make a difference?

We often assume that children do not have their own struggles. The misconception is that children are always happy and playful. But as parents and educators, we must respect kids and acknowledge their emotions. In a world with too much information, opinions and overachievers, children sometimes might feel lost. The struggles are real, probably different for both privileged and under-privileged children. Of course, it is our duty to ensure that children are cared for and grow up in a secure and happy environment. But the least we can do on Children’s Day is to make them feel special and safe.

At Curious Times we have something lined up for you parents and teachers! Wouldn’t you love to make Children’s Day extremely and exclusively special for your kids? Here is what you can do!

Surprise your child, share your child’s special story, your message or a card for her/ him.
