Bridging learning loss in students is a major concern

The schools have reopened for the new academic session in the physical mode for the first time since the pandemic began. The teachers have noticed learning loss amongst the students.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia attended the Parent Teachers’ Meeting held in Delhi Government School. Mr Manish Sisodia said that the closure of the schools has affected education and has affected children’s ability to think and understand. There is learning loss noted in the students. The teachers informed the parents that they need to make efforts in order to bridge the learning loss brought by the pandemic.

Learning loss amongst students

Due to the pandemic, the students have faced learning loss and they have become stressed mentally. The teachers have noticed behavioural changes amongst the students. Parents and teachers are the two most important pillars responsible for the overall development of the child. The teachers are working hard to bridge the learning gaps.

The schools are reopening as the COVID-19 restrictions are fully lifted. The children need to turn their eyes to books again and the parents will need to enforce the habit in the students. During the pandemic, the students have become used to their phones and laptops, but now they need to get back to the usual environment that was before the pandemic.

The learning loss was caused due to the following reasons:

  • Digital learning was a substitute method of teaching and learning. Students could not learn properly.
  • During the online classes, the children were not able to ask questions frequently.
  • Some students did not have a proper internet connection or smartphones.
  • The syllabus was shortened as the online classes were not enough to cover the whole syllabus.
  • Lack of written practice in various subjects also left a big dent on learning.

As a result, the parents and teachers should become more aware of the children. They need to enforce the discipline of learning and attend school regularly.

This is the only way to bridge the learning loss in students.
