Curious Times in conversation with Prachi Sharma

Education is an integral part of a child’s upbringing. We, at Curious Times, have made it our aim to ensure that we also play an active role in imparting the right knowledge to all the Curious children. As such, we also try to ensure that we are always in touch with the leaders in education today and learning from them. After all, it is important to learn from the best.

So, today, we present to you a one-on-one conversation with Prachi Sharma. She is the Vice Principal of Delhi Public School, Sonepat. It aims at the all-round development of the child/individual. It focuses on the current needs and aspirations of a society, its inherent values, concerns as well as broad human ideals.

When did you decide to step into the world of education? What motivated you to become an Educator?

I decided to enter the education field right after I completed my post-graduation. The opportunity to influence young minds and a chance to understand their aspirations, dreams and concerns inspired me to take up teaching.

Share some of the challenges you have faced in your career journey. How did you convert those challenges into the pillars of success?

Synchronizing the thinking of parents and their children have been one of the toughest tasks to accomplish. Usually, parents have pre-set notions about education, career and the prevailing societal norms. But children today are much more aware. They want to explore beyond academics and pursue non-traditional avenues. They want to challenge the established structure and bring about positive changes in society. Having a robust counseling setup and open-door communication policy has helped many of our students convince their parents to consider and understand their point of view.

What are the changes have you observed over the years in the field of education? Are you happy with these changes?

Education has become much more inclusive and there is an increased focus on sustainability, collaboration, curiosity and hands-on learning. Students are being encouraged to ask questions and look for answers themselves and not wait for anyone else to resolve their queries. I really appreciate this approach as all of us are collectively responsible for the survival of this planet and the progress of our society. Education today enables our children to develop an understanding of all the pertinent issues and challenges from an early age and inspires them to take an active part in solving these problems which I believe is a very positive sign for humanity.

What changes would you like to see in the field of Education? What role can the various stakeholders like the government, teachers, students and parents play in this?

Moving away from a compartmentalized approach and giving freedom to our children to set their own goals would be a welcome change. All the stakeholders need to understand that we are living in very dynamic times, and we need to modify our approach to learning as per the changes happening around us. A broad-spectrum approach to education is the need of the hour.

Share your message with the aspiring teachers and leaders of tomorrow

Teaching is an art, and our students are a blank canvas. Let’s use the colors of empathy, kindliness, innovation, and entrepreneurship to paint these blank canvasses so as to guarantee a bright future for all of us.

Share your message for your and Curious Times students

There is nothing in this world that you can’t achieve. Be ready to learn, unlearn and relearn. Stay focused, always be hopeful, and above all have faith in yourself.
