India as a Democracy

India, our country, is one of the oldest civilisations in the world, spanning a period of more than 4000 years.
In this essay, we shall know what is democracy and how India is a democratic country.

DEMOCRACY
Democracy is known as the finest form of government because:
➢ People choose their government
➢ They enjoy rights for living freely and happily
➢ They have equal rights irrespective of caste, creed, religion
➢ They have duties to develop country to make them better citizens
➢ Law made by representatives who are selected by people
➢ People live in harmony

INDIA AS A DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY
India is the largest democratic country. It adopted democracy in the year 1947. India follows five principles of democracy such as: secular, sovereign, republic, socialist and democratic.
In India, all men and women aged 18 and above have right to vote. Election is held and monitored by Election Commission of India to prevent misconduct and to provide right to vote for its citizens. The government of India is run by elected representatives and not controlled by any foreign power.
Our constitution clearly spells out rights and duties of citizens and Supreme Court maintains law and order by protecting these rights through their rulings.
Thus, despite of many religions, sects, home to innumerable castes and tribes, hundreds of several language families and thousands of ethnic groups, our India follows democratic rule and one of the finest countries in the world.
I am proud to be an Indian.
