Indian Democracy

India is the world’s largest democracy.

The President of India is the head of the state and The Prime Minister is the head of the central government. India follows a federal system with 29 states and 7 union territories. The states have Governer as the head and The chief minister as the head of government. Union territories are under the direct governance of the central government, through Lt. Generals.

Current President of India is Shri. Ram Nath Kovind and Shri. Narendra Modi is the Prime Minisiter.

India became a democratic republic on 26th January 1950, when it adopted the Indian constitution. The constituion is the foundation of Indian Democracy.

Indian citizens elect their representatives through a free and fair election process. The governments are usually elected for a period of five years.

India ensures fundamental rights to all its citizens. Some of the importnat fundamental rights are:
– Right to equality
– Right to freedom
– Right to freedom of religions
– Right against exploitation

In conclusion, India achieved its freedom and democracy after many years of struggle againt colonial oppression. We must cherish and nuture our democracy and allow it to prosper.
