Tales of a Schoolboy in Lockdown

The 23rd of March, 2020. Remember that day? It’s the day that turned my world upside down! That’s when the honorable Prime Minister himself, Mr. Modi, declared a lockdown all over India.

The whole country went still, and us schoolchildren? Well, some cheered, some sulked, but none of us knew the adventure that awaited.

Me, I was somewhere in between. But as soon as I heard Curious Times was hosting a little contest about lockdown experiences, well, I knew I had a tale to tell! So, here it goes:

Of Cricket Matches and Curious Questions

Every morning started the same. I’d switch on the T.V., and instead of cartoons, I’d get the latest numbers: active cases of Covid, new deaths… the sadness sank into me like a stone. And forget about those afternoon cricket matches in the park!

Just me, against the four walls of home. “Why?” became my favorite word. Why did this Covid appear? When will it leave? Will I ever go back to school, or will I be a boy who forgot to fly?

When Classrooms Went Digital

Let me tell you, online class isn’t the same. You stare at that tiny phone screen for hours, eyes burning. It’s like learning from a little box, with no one to pinch the kid beside you, or share your lunch (not that their mother’s cooking compares to my own!). Tension filled my brain like water in a cracked pot – ready to spill over any minute.

The Day I Became a “Covid Case”

Now here’s a funny one for you! One day, I was lost in a book – a gift from my wise old grandpa – when suddenly… ACHOO! Then, another! And another! 12 sneezes in a row! We all knew it – sneezing means Covid. The tears started before my nose stopped running.

Was this it? My grand adventure ending before it began? But then, one final sneeze. I looked down, and what did I see on my book? A tiny, pesky fly! My cries turned to giggles faster than a cricket ball flies for a six.

Family Tales and Hidden Treasures

The lockdown wasn’t all gloom and doom. I played all sorts of games with my parents, heard stories of their own childhood mishaps. “Parents” became “partners,” did you know that? I also discovered my greatest lockdown joy: books! Novels, comics, histories! Before, my knowledge was like a frog’s pond, but those books opened whole oceans!

And something even better…I gave some of my scholarship money to help poorer folks. Donating to the Bharat Sevashram was the best moment of this whole lockdown!

And Yet, the Fight Continues…

Sadly, even with all that joy, a shadow hangs over my head again. The second wave of Covid, and a new scary thing called Black Fungus! Lockdowns are back, and we’re all holding our breaths. But I know one thing: we’ve faced troubles before, and we’ll fight them again.

For now, it’s back to “Stay Home, Stay Safe.” And don’t forget… wash your hands, keep your distance, and wear that mask like a superhero!
