105-year-old woman becomes Kerala’s oldest ‘equivalency learner’

105-year-old woman becomes Kerala’s oldest ‘equivalency learner’Bhageerathi Amma, a 105-year-old woman in Kerala appeared for the 4th standard equivalency examination conducted by the state literacy mission.

With this, she became the oldest 'equivalency learner' in Kerala.

Bhageerathi Amma always was determined to study but unfortunately, she had to give up due to family responsibilities. She had to leave school at the age of 9 when she was in class 3.
 	Thankfully, she never gave up and so, decided to appear for the exam recently.
 	In the exam, since she had some difficulty in writing, she completed 3 question papers on Environment, Maths and Malayalam in 3 days.
 	She was helped by her youngest daughter during the exams.
 	Amma has a sharp memory and no eyes sight problems despite her age. She has 6 children and 12 grand and great-grandchildren.

Bhageerathi Amma's story is a wonderful inspiration to people who are interested in getting educated and take part in literacy programmes.

Previously as well, in 2018, a 96-year-old woman named Karthiyayani Amma also appeared for a literacy examination, scoring very high marks.

Equivalency programmes are organised by the Kerala government to provide an alternative education especially for adults. The aim of the literacy mission is to make the state fully literate.
