18-year-old boy will be youngest person to go to space

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Earlier, we read about Wally Funk, who is going on the Blue Origin rocket, New Shephard, to space. This will make her the oldest person to go to space.

Now, joining her on the flight will be an 18-year-old boy named Oliver Daemen. He will be the youngest person ever to fly to space.

Originally, an unnamed person was supposed to be on the flight. This person had paid US$28 million for a seat during an auction (sale). However, the person cannot go now. And so, Blue Origin picked a Dutch businessman named Joes Daemen, who had booked a seat on Blue Origin’s second flight. But, Joes decided to give the seat to his son, Oliver.

New Shepard first human spaceflight will take off on 20 July. You can also see the launch live on BlueOrigin.com from 11:30 am UTC (5:00 pm IST). The whole trip will last about 10 minutes.
