Nelson Mandela International Day!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Hello, inquisitive mind! Today, we have an exciting story to tell you about a special day called Nelson Mandela International Day. It’s celebrated on July 18th, which also happens to be the birthday of a very important person named Nelson Mandela.

Nelson Mandela was a superhero from South Africa who fought against the control of the British and a mean system called apartheid. He believed in equality and fairness for all people, no matter their skin color.

In fact, he made history by becoming the first black person to be elected as the President of South Africa in 1994. Wow, that’s pretty amazing, isn’t it?

Nelson Mandela: Inspiring Legacy

  • Nelson Mandela was so awesome that he won some really fancy awards for his outstanding work. He even got the Nobel Peace Prize, which is like getting a gold star for making the world a better place. Another cool award he received was called the Bharat Ratna. It’s like a superhero medal that shows how brave and kind he was.
  • Since Nelson Mandela was such a superstar, people all over the world wanted to remember him and all the great things he did. That’s why they made Nelson Mandela International Day. It’s a day where everyone shows how much they admire Nelson Mandela and his fight for peace, human rights, and freedom.
  • So, my little friend, on this special day, people all around the world spend 67 minutes doing good things for others. Why 67 minutes, you ask? Well, that number represents the 67 years that Nelson Mandela spent working hard to make the world a better place.
  • The first ever Mandela Day was launched in New York in 2009 by the United Nations General Assembly. It was a big event where everyone came together to honor Nelson Mandela’s legacy. And now, every year on July 18th, people young and old celebrate this amazing man and do something kind for others, just like he did.
  • So, let’s remember Nelson Mandela and be inspired to make the world a better place too! Maybe we can do something kind for our friends, family, or even strangers.
