A moon rock as office decoration

On 20 January 2021, Joe Biden became the new President of the United States. He and his family moved into the White House (official house and office of the US president) on the same day.

When a new president moves into the White House, they usually get some new decorations like photos and sculptures.

This time, President Biden’s office will have a moon rock that is 3.9-billion-years-old as part of the new decorations. The moon rock actually belongs to NASA but the White House has borrowed it for now.

The moon rock

It is called “Lunar Sample 76015,143”. It is displayed in Biden’s office in a protective case with an attached explanation of its history.

The moon rock came from the Apollo 17 mission in 1972. This was the last manned mission by the US to the Moon. It weighs 332 gram and was chipped off from a large boulder on the Moon.
