The Paralympics are held along with the Summer Olympic Games every four years. These are held for athletes with different kinds of disabilities.
The Olympics and Paralympics were supposed to have been held this year in Tokyo, Japan. But now, they have been postponed to next year.
A 16-year-old teenage girl named Anastasia Pagonis is training hard to compete in swimming at the Paralympics in 2021. Even better, she is training with the help of a guide dog named Radar.
Anastasia’s story
Anastasia lives in New York, US. She became blind when she was 14 which really upset her. But Anastasia wanted to continue fighting and be motivated. So, she decided to focus on swimming in competitions. She had already started doing this before she lost her eyesight.
She got Radar from an organisation called Guide Dog Foundation and it was a perfect match! Radar is a bubbly and friendly dog who now travels with Anastasia wherever she goes.
Anastasia says that Radar has helped her so much. She can be independent and travel around without help from others. She continues to work hard to reach the Tokyo Paralympics next year. Of course, Radar will be there with her.
