A submarine to make icebergs

A submarine to make icebergsGlobal warming is rapidly melting the ice at the Earth's poles. So, in order to fight this issue, researchers are coming up with new ideas. One of them is a submarine which would make icebergs!

Who has come up with this idea?

A group of Indonesian designers - Faris Rajak Kotahatuhaha, Denny Lesmana Budi and Fiera Alifa have come up with this idea.
 	They won second prize for this idea at the ASA International Design Competition organised by the Association of Siamese Architects (ASA).

How will this idea work?

The submarine has a hexagon (six sides)-shaped tank. When it goes underwater, it will get filled with the melted arctic water.

The submarine has a set of machines that will help the water to desalinate (lose salt) and once the water is salt-free, it is refrozen.
 	When the water gets frozen, the submarine comes to the top and releases the hexagon-shaped ice and repeats the process by re-filling the water body.

However, some experts say that this process will be beneficial only if the submarines don't use fossil fuel (like petrol or diesel). They would need to use clean energy like solar energy to make a positive difference.

Additionally, the icebergs created would have to be really huge in order to have an impact.
