Forbes Magazine has released its list of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women this year.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has topped the list for the 10th year in a row. She is appearing for the 15th time on the list.

This is the 17th year that Forbes is coming out with the list. They include women from 30 nations.

This year, Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, is No. 2 on the list (same as last year). In No. 3 position is the U.S. Vice-President Elect Kamala Harris. She is the first Black and Indian American to hold the position. She has not appeared on the list before.

Other women on at the 10 top include Melinda Gates (Co-Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation), Mary Barra (head of General Motors) and Ursula von der Leyen (President of the European Commission, European Union).

Four Indian women also feature in the list this year. They are Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman (No. 41), Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (founder of biotechnology company Biocon). And also, Roshni Nadar Malhotra (the chairperson of HCL Technologies) and Renuka Jagtiani (head of Landmark Group).

This year’s list also reflects how the pandemic has made some sectors more powerful (like delivery and medical services). The list includes Carol Tomé (the head of the United Parcel Service) and Linda Rendle (Head of Clorox, which manufactures cleaning products).
