Armed Forces Flag Day – 7 December

Recommended for Foundational Grades

The Armed Forces Flag Day or Flag Day of India is celebrated every year on 7 December. Moreover, The first Flag Day was observed in 1949.

The Armed Forces of India is divided into 3 branches – The Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. We also celebrated Navy Day on 4 December.

Armed Forces Day

An army tank

On Armed Forces Flag day, we honour the soldiers, airmen and sailors who fought for our country. Above all, many of them have been injured while fighting for and protecting us, while some have also died.

Flags of red, deep blue and light blue colours represent the three branches of the Indian armed forces. Furthermore the Indian armed forces flags, stickers and badges are distributed on this day. In return, people around the country give money or other donations to help the soldiers and their families.

All the 3 armed forces also organise different programmes to celebrate this day. In addition, these programmes also display the effort the forces put in, to protect the country.

In conclusion, let us remember the brave men of our armed forces on this day.
