Atal Ranking of Institutions on innovation achievements

The 2021 awardees of Atal Ranking of Institutions for Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) were announced by Dr Subhas Sarkar. The topmost criteria for these rankings are “innovation”. IIT-Madras was ranked #1 followed by IIT-Bombay and IIT-Delhi. Moreover, it’s a hat-trick for the prestigious IIT-Madras in this category.

Criteria for judgement

Some of the parameters considered in evaluating the ranking are:

  • Budget & Funding Support
  • Infrastructure & Facilities
  • Awareness, Promotions & support for Idea Generation & Innovation
  • Promotion & Support for Entrepreneurship Development
  • Innovative Learning Methods & Courses
  • Intellectual Property Generation, Technology Transfer & Commercialization
  • Innovation in Governance of the Institution

Goal of ARIIA

ARIIA aims to systematically rank all major higher educational institutions and universities in India according to innovation output (the extent to which innovative ideas from able to reach the market to provide better jobs).

  • Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras topped in the ranking.
  • IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi came second and third.
  • Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore holds the fourth position.
  • IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur and IIT Mandi hold fifth, sixth and seventh positions respectively.

Furthermore, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Education, Dr Subhas Sarkar, congratulated all the institutions for their achievement. He also noted that Indian institutions are making a lot of effort to improve their ranking year after year.

He laid special emphasis on nurturing innovation to achieve India’s 5 trillion economy dream by 2025.
