Facebook, Google to pay for news

Australia has passed a new law that will force technology companies to pay publishers for news content. This includes companies like Facebook and Google.

This law that requires Facebook, Google to pay for news is the first of its kind in the world. It is considered to be beneficial to the news business. Earlier, local news organisations had felt that tech companies were using their news content for free, causing losses for them.

This new law has been a big issue in recent months. Both Facebook and Google have opposed the law. Google said that it would remove the “search” button on Google Chrome in Australia. Facebook also shut down news pages in Australia last week but it has now restored them.

Now what?

Now, both Facebook and Google are making deals with various news publishers and organisations to use their content.

Other countries like the United States and the European Union are also discussing adopting such measures. Canada has also said that it plans to introduce similar laws soon.
