Ban of non-reusable plastic water bottles in ParliamentUse of non-reusable plastic items within the Parliament* complex has been banned.

The ban came into force from 20th August.
 	All officers working in the Parliament House Complex have to follow these directions.
 	They have to use environment-friendly and biodegradable* material.
 	This initiative is a step forward to make the country free from plastics.

In his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the harm caused by plastic to our environment.

He urged citizens to give up using single-use plastic.
 	He encouraged people to take significant steps by 2nd October when the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi will be celebrated across the country.
