BBC reveals list of 100 ‘Novels That Shaped Our World’

BBC reveals list of 100 ‘Novels That Shaped Our World’The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) has recently revealed a list of 100 English language ‘Novels That Shaped Our World’.

Selected by a panel of writers, curators and critics, this list has 100 English language novels which the panel feels has widely influenced our world.
 	The panel chose the novels from a wide range of novels including contemporary novels, classics, graphic novels and children’s books. They have also divided the list into 12 categories including,  identity, love, politics, class and society, etc.
 	Some renowned Indian authors' novels featured on the list are R.K. Narayan's Swami and Friends, Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things, Salman Rushdie's The Moor's Last Sigh and Vikram Seth's A Suitable Boy.
 	The list also includes V.S. Naipaul’s A House for Mr Biswas, Afghan-American novelist Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns, Pakistani authors Mohsin Hamid and Kamila Shamsie's The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Home Fire respectively.
 	Other popular novels which have also been included are J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, Toni Morrison’s Beloved, J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series and many more.

BBC Arts director Jonty Claypole said the list kickstarts the BBC’s year-long celebration of literature.
