Brain signals associated with OCD are discovered.

Recently, scientists have discovered brain activity linked with OCD.

What is OCD?

OCD is obsessive compulsive disorder. It features a pattern of unwanted thoughts and fears that leads the person to do repetitive behaviours.

The scientists stated that if the brain signals with OCD can be identified thoroughly, these can be cured as well.

It is said that obsessive-compulsive disorder can affect up to two people out of 100. Various drugs and treatments are available for obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, 40% of people affected with OCD don’t show any benefits from the treatments.

In a recent study, five individuals with severe OCD were monitored. Their facial expressions, body movements, heart rate are studied during the monitoring.

The detailed information received would then open the way towards the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorders.

Process of  brain stimulation

The process to read the brain signals uses a device which is known as the deep brain stimulation(DBS) system. They use electrodes to trigger patterns of electrical stimulation in the brain.

Deep Brain Stimulation is a way to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder. Though, these DBS systems can’t be quickly adjusted along with the changes in symptoms.
