Brilliant fireball lights up midnight sky over northeast ChinaThe midnight sky in northeast China lit up for a few seconds on 14 October 2019. It appeared to be a big meteor*.

Surveillance cameras caught the video of the meteor as a brilliant fireball lighting up the night sky at 12:16 a.m. Beijing time.
 	Videos of the fireball were captured by surveillance cameras in the city of Songyuan in the province of Jilin, as well as by many residents across northeast China.
 	The meteor was also visible from the Heilongjiang Province.
 	Northeast China sees quite a few meteor showers during the year.

The above display occurred in the early hours on 4 January this year.

The Geminid meteor shower also puts on a stunning light show over northeast China every year between 4 and 17 December. So that is something to look forward to.

This year, the Geminid meteor shower will be visible from between 14 and 15 December. You can also see it from India.

*Meteor: A small body of matter from outer space that enters the earth's atmosphere. It lights up as a result of friction and appears as a streak of light.
