Bus stops that are Honeybee-friendly!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Stopping Places for Buses in Scotland will be kind to honeybees and the environment. They will be covering their roofs with plants.

“Bee Bus Stops” are going to be installed in a number of Scotland’s bus shelters. Thus this will result in the transformation of dozens of existing shelters.

Authorities hope that this will increase biodiversity and keep shelters cooler in the summer. In addition to absorbing pollutants because they will be covered in a blooming plant.

Key facts!

  • The conversion will initially be implemented at some of the buses stops as part of a test run.
  • Eventually, the city may soon decide to implement it citywide for all new bus stops and mandate that existing stops be retrofitted.
  • The city planners have high hopes that they will be able to devise volunteer programmes to irrigate and care for the plants that are perched atop the bus stops,
  • In order to foster a sense of community within the Union Street neighbourhood.
  • Bee-friendly bus stops have already been implemented in a number of cities across Europe.
  • Experts believe that individual bus stops might not have much of an influence on the environment.
  • However, it is possible to easily transform an entire network of municipal infrastructure into one with no negative effects on the environment.
  • Authorities feel that bus stops are visible to everyone.
  • Also, even if one is not riding the bus but instead strolling or driving by.
  • Thus it is a visible reflection of the tiny changes that create more room for nature.
