Calcium is important for the heart

Recommended for Foundational Grades

Calcium is important for the heart.

We know that calcium keeps your bones healthy. But, did you know that calcium is equally nutritious for your heart as well?

Your heart is the size of your fist. It’s small, yet the heart beats an average of 100,000 times a day. Isn’t that interesting?

But there are conditions that stop the heart from pumping blood and that can cause serious problems and can lead to heart transportation.

What is heart failure?

Heart failure refers to an incurable condition where the heart is no longer able to meet the body’s demands in terms of blood supply.

Heart failure is one of the most common causes of death and it affects almost 40 million people worldwide.

In a recent study, it is declared that an unknown mutation can lead to a condition called cardiomyopathy. This is the main cause of heart failure.

Calcium protects the heart

Now, our little curious readers must be thinking why is calcium important for our heart?

Not just the bones, calcium provides nutrition to the heart as well. Calcium particles enter the heart muscle cells and contribute to the functioning of the heart.

In a recent study, the researchers have found a new gene BAG5 which is the main cause of heart failure. But this gene is important for calcium in the muscle cells of the heart. Calcium is an essential nutrient for the regular rhythm and health of the cardiac muscles.

Calcium also helps in binding the machinery within the cell that helps the heart cells to pump blood in the body.

At Curious Times, we wish all our little munchkins to have a healthy life and curious minds.
