Christmas Day – 25 December
Recommended for Foundational Grades
Christmas is celebrated on 25 December every year. It is celebrated as the day that Jesus Christ was born.
How is Christmas celebrated?
- On this day, Christians visit the church, where prayers are held and carols are sung. There is joy and happiness all around as families and friends meet together. Delicious food, including the famous Christmas plum cakes are made and served.
- The Christmas tree is kept in many homes during the festival. It is decorated with lights, ornaments, stars etc. Homes, offices, malls, streets are usually lighted and decorated with mistletoe, stars, bells, wreath, Christmas trees and more.
- People exchange cards and gifts on the day. But the best gifts come from Santa Claus who rides with Rudolph the reindeer all the way from the North Pole.
- On Xmas day, children wait to get up in the morning and find their secret gift wrapped and kept under the Christmas tree by Santa Claus. Children also take part in the play about Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem, Israel.
