Arancini – Eat Street!

Arancini is a popular Italian street food item, which is a delicious, crispy, deep-fried ball of rice. The name, Arancini means “little orange”, as a cooked Arancini looks very much similar to an orange.

Important Details

  • Arancini has been a part of traditional Southern Italian cuisine for several centuries.
  • It is believed to have originated in the Italian city of Sicily during the 10th century.
  • In this dish, rice balls are stuffed with various items, coated with bread crumbs and then deep-fried.
  • The stuffings vary from region to region.
  • The common fillings include meat sauce with peas, sliced meat, cheeses (like provolone, mozzarella or pecorino), eggplant and tomatoes.
  • The traditional arancini comes in two main variants.
    •  The first is perfectly round in shape and filled with a ragu sauce of meat, mozzarella and peas.
    •  The second one has a longer, pear-like shape and is filled with mozzarella and prosciutto and grated cheese.
