Bunny chow is a unique and delicious South African street food. It is a combo of spicy curry served in a hollowed-out loaf of bread.

- It is often also called ‘bunny’.
- There are many tales behind the name bunny chow.
- One of them is that the term ‘bunny’ is derived from the word “bania“.
- Banias are an Indian class of traders who sold this tasty street food in Durban.
- A bunny is made from half a loaf of bread.
- The inside part of the bread loaf is scooped out and kept to fill the gravy.
- The spicy gravy is made from lamb, mutton or vegetables. Beef, chicken etc are also used.
- Bunny chow comes in quarter, half and full loaves.
