Engineer’s Day: 15th SeptemberEngineers play a very important role in our every day life. They make our life easy by building infrastructure, technology, innovation etc. Today is the day to cherish and thank their contributions. It's Engineer's Day Today.

Since 1968, Engineer's Day is celebrated on 15th September in India. This day is celebrated in remembrance of the birthday of one of the greatest engineers in India, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya.

This year's theme for Engineer's day is "Digital Transformation: A new industrial revolution"
India, Sri Lanka and Tanzania celebrate Engineer's day on the same day. While other countries celebrate on different dates.

Sir M. Visvesvarayya is popularly known as Sir MV.
 	Sir MV was born on 15th September 1860 in Muddenahalli, Chikkaballapur, Karnataka.
 	He worked with the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Indian Irrigation Commission.
 	He closely worked on building and consolidation of dams throughout India.
 	He invented the 'Block System' in which dam gates close automatically in case of water overflow.
 	He was the person behind the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Mysore. 
 	He also designed the flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad.
 	For his outstanding contribution to the society, Government of India awarded him 'Bharat Ratna' in 1955.
 	He was also awarded the 'British Knighthood' by King George V and hence he is referred to as "Sir".
