The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) released the BBC 100 Women 2020 list on Tuesday. These are 100 women from across the world who had had a strong impact on events in 2020.

This year’s theme is ‘How Women Led Change in 2020’. The BBC 100 women 2020 list celebrates scientists, public health experts, and healthcare workers who have helped us fight the global pandemic. It also includes other women who have all been leaders of change in their own way.

Four Indian women are featured among the top 100. They are – 82-year-old Shaheen Bagh protester Bilkis Bano, Gaana (traditional Tamil music) singer Isaivani, current para-badminton world champion Manasi Joshi and climate activist Ridhima Pandey.

Bilkis Bano was also earlier named on TIME magazine’s ‘most influential’ of 2020 list.

The worldwide list includes Sanna Marin who is the prime minister of Finland, actress Michelle Yeoh and scientist Sarah Gilbert, who is heading the Oxford University research into a coronavirus vaccine.

Other names include Sarah Al-Amiri who headed the UAE’s historic mission to Mars, and Jane Fonda, a climate activist and actor.

For the first time, this year’s list will see the 100th spot left blank. The BBC said that this is meant to honour all the women who made an impact and a sacrifice in this extraordinary year.
