Halloween 2020 is going to be ‘once in a Blue Moon’!

What is special about Halloween 2020? Let’s find out. Halloween or All Hallow’s Eve is a day of celebration in many countries across the world. It falls on 31 October every year. This year, Halloween will be a little extra special – it will have a ‘Blue Moon’!

However, the term ‘Blue Moon’ does not have anything to do with the colour of the Moon.

The term is actually used when a second full moon occurs in one month. This October, there are two full moons. The first full moon occurred on 2 October and the second one will be visible from 8:19 p.m. on Halloween.

The last time a Blue Moon was spotted on Halloween was in 1944. Additionally, the Halloween 2020 full moon will also be visible to the entire world, rather than just parts of it. A Blue Moon is not very common.

It happens about once every two and a half years. Hence, we use the term “once in a blue moon” to talk about a rare event. This term was first used in the early 16th century When a Blue Moon occurs in a year, that year will have 13 full moons instead of the normal 12.
