Heavy rain and floods in Kerala and other states

Heavy rain and floods in Kerala and other statesIndia has been experiencing heavy rains in at least nine states, including Kerala. It has affected lakhs of people.

Reports say that about 5000 NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) personnel are working in rescue and relief operations across India.
 	The Army, Navy, Air Force, as well as local police and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), have also been involved in rescue efforts.
 	NDRF has rescued over 42,000 people in Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
 	Additionally, Tamil Nadu, Goa and Odisha have also been feeling the impact of the heavy rains and floods.

The Karnataka state government has announced compensation to the victims of the floods in Karnataka.

Kerala has been the worst-hit among the states in South India.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a red alert in nine districts of Kerala. They include Dukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad among others.

Educational institutions have been shut down.
 	They have closed the Kochi airport temporarily while other trains and air services have also been delayed or cancelled.
 	Authorities are working hard to rescue people from low-lying and flooded areas.
 	Unfortunately, 45 people have also passed away.

The Kerala government has set up 1,111 relief camps across the state to help the affected people.
