India bags 188 medals at Special Olympics World Games

India bags 188 medals at Special Olympics World Games
India has won a total of 188 medals at the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi so far. The medals include 50 gold, 63 silver, and 75 bronze medals. India made history in table tennis with four gold and one silver medal.

Anu Chennekota won her maiden Special Olympics World Games gold in the 16-21 years’ division-3 category of table tennis.
 	Sabita Yadav won a singles gold in the Division-4 category of table tennis.
 	In the men’s event, Karnataka’s Sandesh Krishna and Maharashtra’s Akash Tukuram clinched gold in men’s singles in different divisions of the 18-21 years’ category.
 	In Judo, Sonu Kumar from Rohtak, Haryana won the gold medal.

Special Olympics World Games is an international sporting competition for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

The World Games take place every two years.
 	This year the 15th edition of the Games is being hosted by UAE in Abu Dhabi.
 	It is the first time that the Special Olympics is being held in the Middle East and North Africa region.
 	7,500 athletes from 190 countries across the world are taking part in the Games.
 	The Games include 24 Olympic-style sporting events.
 	India has sent a team of 378 athletes for the Games.
 	The closing ceremony of Special Olympics World Games is scheduled for March 21.
