India introduces E-passports with an embedded microchip.

Have you ever planned to go to any place outside India? When you hear about any place, you must wonder about the place and its whereabouts. Don’t you? Well, for all you curious souls, there’s another news, so that you can enjoy your travel.

India is planning to introduce E-passports with an embedded microchip. In simple words, with the microchip, they will be called as digital passports.

Features of the E-passports

The spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi said that the ministry is always trying to develop the provided services. The E-passports with the infused chip will help in eliminating forgery during the immigration process.

  1. The new E-passports will be based on secure biometric data. Moreover, they will ensure a smooth immigration process all over the world.
  2. The E=passport will be ICAO( International Civil Aviation Organization) law.
  3. Currently, the Indian government will issue traditional booklets as passports for people who wish to travel abroad.
  4. E-passports help in reducing the risk of fraud activities during the immigration process.

Use of the microchip

The microchip is embedded into the passport booklet. It stores the biographical information on the second page of the passport. Moreover, it has a digital security feature.

As per the digital security feature, the chip stores a unique digital signature of each country. These signatures can be verified using the certificates.

The idea of E-passports took the surface in India in 2017. Since 2017, India has issued 20,000 official and diplomatic E-passports on a trial basis. And all these passports have the chip embedded in them.

Moreover, now, the country is planning to introduce fully digital passports which can be saved on our smartphones. Won’t that be interesting and easy? We’ll just have to carry our phones, and it will be all sorted.

Though, until we wait for the digital passports, you kids can visit Curious Times and travel the world with us. Stay safe and curious!
