Fun facts about Gwalior!

  • Known as the Fort City, Gwalior’s forts and palaces are awe-inspiring.
  • The Mughals, Scindias, and Tomars all dominated the city at various points in time.
  • A mythological chieftain named Suraj Sen is credited with founding Gwalior in the 8th century CE.
  • A saint named Gwalipa cured this ruler of leprosy. Gwalior was founded as a tribute to Saint Gwalipa.

 

  • For its ancient temples, palaces, and stunning monuments, Gwalior is a popular destination.
  • To name just a few, there’s the Gwalior Fort, the Phool Bagh Gardens, the Suraj Kund, Hathi Phool, and the Man Mandir Palaces and Zoos of Gandhi Prani and Laxmi Bai, as well as other lesser-known sites like the Samadhi and Man Mandir Palaces.
  • Gwalior’s most well-known event is the Tansen Music Festival. It’s held every year in the middle of the winter.
