Udaipur, also known as the ‘City of Lakes’, is a city in southern Rajasthan.

  • Udaipur is a famous tourist spot in Rajasthan. It got the name “City of Lakes” because of its well-connected lake system, which includes Lake Badi, Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar Lake, and more.
  • The City of Lakes is surrounded by the Aravali Range, which separates it from the Thar Desert.

  • The city was founded in 1553 by Maharana Udai Singh II as the new capital of the Mewar Kingdom.
  • Apart from its beautiful man-made lakes, the city is also known for its landscaped gardens and Rajput palaces. Many of these palaces are now converted into luxury hotels.

  • Udaipur boasts a rare collection of ancient earthen pottery at the Ahar Museum.
  • You can also visit the ancient Jagdish temple which was built in 1651, and Jaisamand Lake, which is the second-largest man-made sweet water lake in Asia.
  • Apart from the above, you can visit the Udaipur Solar Observatory in Lake Fateh Sagar. This is the only observatory in India located on an island.
