India weather: IMD predicts heavy rains in Tamil Nadu

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that parts of north Tamil Nadu will face heavy rains today. it has predicted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from 26 to 29 November.

Since yesterday, several districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have been receiving heavy rains. So, IMD has issued a red alert in Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Ramanathapuram, Pudukkottai and Nagapattinam districts.

Schools and colleges were closed today in 25 districts. They include Ramanathapuram, Chennai, Kanyakumari, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Perambalur, Tiruchirapalli, and some other districts.

Authorities are preparing for flood situations and waterlogging in different cities due to the heavy rains. It has especially affected homeless people and stray animals.

Apart from Tamil Nadu, parts of Kerala and Andhra Pradesh are also expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall over the next 5 days. Authorities have advised fishermen in the area not to go out to sea.

Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh may see isolated rain/snow between today and tomorrow.

As for the temperature, the maximum temperatures are expected to be cooler than normal across northeastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on Friday.
