Indian Women’s Hockey – every minute counts!

As we settle into our afternoon siesta, half-awake, half-asleep, I’ve always wondered as a country our fixation towards cricket. I mean, sure there are other games in which the athletes put in the same amount of hard work and effort. But for some reason, these other sports don’t get the attention they deserve. It was quite an eye-opener for me to read about our Chak De team – Indian Women’s Hockey, and these women are packed with some solid strength and determination. Wow – Truly inspirational!

Humble background

The majority of them come from humble and down to earth backgrounds. Without going into exact details but just to give you an idea – fields like working in a shoe factory, as a mechanic, tailor, ticket collector, coming from a tribal family – their reality gets defined not from where they are but relying 200% on their dreams, aspirations and hard work.

Unsung heroes

These women have worked really hard to come to play for the Indian Team, from the games at Rio 2016 to the most recently concluded Tokyo Olympic games. Captain Courageous “Rani Rampal” whose father is a cart puller, puts up a stellar performance and leads her team of warriors with absolute courage and determination.

Mindset

One doesn’t always need a gold prize to shine as bright as these women have in the past. Playing every minute of 70 minutes to their heart’s content is what our Indian Women’s hockey team has taught us. In the end it’s never about winning or losing, it’s always the attitude, mindset and journey that each player experiences. Their passion and never say die spirit lives and inspires each one of us.

At Curious Times, we wish nothing but the best to the Women’s Indian team for the Asian Cup 2022.
