Recommended for Foundational Grades
Jiya Rai is a 12-year-old girl from Mumbai, Maharashtra. She has Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Recently, Jiya swam by herself for 36 km in the Arabian Ocean, from Bandra-Worli Sea Link to Gateway of India in Mumbai.
With this, she has created a record of being the youngest girl with Autism to swim such a long distance in the sea. She completed the swim in 8 hours and 40 minutes.
Through this event, Jiya wanted to create more awareness about Autism. ASD is a range of disorders that affects communication and behaviour. Its symptoms (signs) can be very mild or very severe and usually starts during childhood.
Many people congratulated this amazing girl on social media. They said that she is such an inspiration (good example) for everyone.
