On April 29, people all around the world celebrate International Dance Day (IDD). Creative dance is a type of self-expression that helps one relax, get out of their comfort zone, meet new people, and improve one’s physical well-being.

Individuals and professional dancers alike participate in the yearly ritual. Take your passion and dance your heart out on Dance Day.

Significance of International Dance Day!

  • Promoting dance in all its forms across the world.
  • Increasing awareness of the value of dance in all its forms.
  • Enabling the dance community to promote their work on a broad scale, so that governments and opinion leaders support and value dance
  • Enjoying dance and sharing the joy of dance with others.

History of International Dance Day!

  • IDD was created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) in 1982.
  • ITI is the main partner for performing arts of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
  • Jean-Georges Noverre, the founder of modern ballet, was born on April 29th, 1727.
  • Messages from famous choreographers and dancers are sent throughout the world every year.

2023 Celebrations!

  • International Dance Day 2023 will be the 41st Anniversary of the Day.
  • The online celebration will present one video from this year’s Message Author and five dance productions, each from one region (Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Americas, Europe, and Arab Countries).
  • Organizers hope to bring people together and showcase the world’s appreciation for dance’s beauty and variety during the event.
  • On 29 April, the International Dance Day website will feature all of the footage of the dance performances.
