Italian Open 2022 Update, 15 May!

The Italian Open is widely regarded as one of the most important clay-court competitions. The competition takes place in the city of Rome. The tournament makes for a happy atmosphere that is hard to find elsewhere.

Men’s Singles Semifinals!

Novak Djokovic vs Casper Ruud

Novak Djokovic beat Casper Rudd to win the 1000th match of his career. This means that he has won 1000 times and lost 203 times over the course of his career. Djokovic beat Ruud in two straight sets, 6-4 and 6-3, to reach the final of the Italian Open for the fourth year in a row and the 12th time overall in 16 tries.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Alexander Zverev

Alexander Zverev lost to Tsitsipas in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, and 6-3, giving Tsitsipas his eighth win over Alexander Zverev. Tsitsipas won because his serve stayed strong and consistent throughout the whole match. Zverev’s game got worse and worse until it was no longer competitive, so Tsitsipas was able to win easily in the end.

Women’s Singles Semifinals!

Iga Swiatek vs Arnya Sabalenka

Iga Swiatek, one of the best players in the world, beat Arnya Sabalenka, the third seed in the women’s singles event at the Italian Open 2022, with ease, 6-2, 6-2.

Swiatek beat Sabalenka in a decisive match, which made it 27 straight wins on the tour for her. Iga Swiatek is only 20 years old and has a 3-1 head-to-head record against Sabalenka after winning both of their previous matches this year in straight sets.

Ons Jabeur vs Daria Kasatkina

Ons Jabeur beat Daria Kasatkina 6-4, 1-6, 7-5. With this win Ons Jabeur kept her winning streak going. In this match, Daria Kasatkina was the top seed. At 5-4 in the third set, Kasatkina had a chance to win the match, but Jabeur hit a forehand winner on the sideline to take that chance away.

After winning in Rome in 1 hour and 55 minutes, Jabeur won 11 straight matches to set a new personal best and a new career high.
