James Webb Space Telescope Launch

The James Webb Space Telescope is a space telescope that is jointly developed by NASA(National Aeronautics and Space Administration), the European Space Agency(ESA), and the Canadian Space Agency(CSA). It is said that this telescope will succeed the Hubble Space Telescope.

What is Hubble Space Telescope?

Hubble Space Telescope is the space telescope which was launched in lower Earth orbit in 1990 and it is still in operation. It is the largest and most versatile tool for astronomy.

The James Webb Telescope will be launched on 24th December 2021. It was earlier scheduled for 22 December 2021. The researchers at NASA said that there is some communication issue between the observatory and the launch vehicle. That is why the launch of the Webb telescope has been delayed.

Purpose of the James Webb Space Telescope

James Webb Telescope telescope will study our own solar system. It will also study the atmospheres of various exoplanets in search of an atmosphere similar to Earth’s atmosphere.  The telescope will be used to find the substances like water, oxygen, carbon dioxide and organic molecules, in order to find life on other planets.

The telescope will be launched on an Ariane 5 rocket which is the most reliable launch vehicle in the world. It will be launched from Guiana Space Center in Kourou, French Guiana.
