James Webb Space Telescope launches

James Webb Space Telescope launches on Christmas Day.

We have already read that James Webb Telescope had its launch date on 24th December, but it got launched on 25th December.

The Webb Space Telescope was scheduled to launch from Guiana Space Center in Kourou, French Guiana on 25th December at 7:20 am EST(which is 5:50 pm IST).

The Webb telescope is worth $10 billion. It took 30 years to build and it is considered one of the greatest scientific efforts of 2021. It is said to succeed the Hubble Space Telescope.

 James Webb Space Telescope Launch

The Webb Telescope was launched on 25th December at 5:50 pm, according to India time. 47 seconds after the takeoff, Ariane 5 climbed out of the thick lower atmosphere.

27 minutes after the launch, the telescope was released to fly on its own. It happened at an altitude of 865 miles above the eastern coast of Africa at a speed of more than 21,000mph.

The NASA chief stated that this telescope is a time machine and it will take us back to the beginning of the universe.

The James Webb Space Telescope will be positioned deep into space, that is, a million miles away from the Earth. This space is known as Lagrange Point 2 or L2 where it will be able to circle the sun in the gravitational pattern with the sun. It would take approximately one month to reach its destination.

The James Webb Space Telescope launch got broadcast on the official NASA website and various other social media channels.
