The annual State school arts festival (Kalolsavam) in Kerala is commonly recognised as the largest event of its kind in Asia.

The festival was attended by more than ten thousand kids from more than ten different districts in the Indian state of Kerala.

Key facts!

  • The festival was open to students enrolled in classes 8 to 12 in state schools.
  • There are more than two hundred different competitive events that took place at the festival.
  • Some of these events include performances of classical dances such as Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Kathakali.
  • The event also includes drama, classical music recitals, and instrumental music.
  • Painting, story-writing, mimicry and mono-act were must-see attractions of the festival.
  • Additionally, the festival also offers an essential platform for the continuation of vital traditional art forms.
  • New activities have been added over the years, making the festival larger and highlighting less-known art disciplines.
  • Kalolsavam 2023  saw more than ten thousand spectators.
  • A food pavilion fed 15,000 people every day.
  • Artists say that Kalolsavam is the best place for young musicians and artists to show what they can do.
  • Several of Kerala’s most well-known actors, dancers, and musicians made their first public appearances at the festival and quickly became well-known.
