In Senegal (a country in Africa), a man named Haidar el Ali is working to re-plant trees lost to deforestation (cutting down trees). He has worked to plant 152 million mangrove trees in 10 years.

Haider is an environmentalist and a politician. He realised that Senegal was losing many of its important mangrove forests and decided to do something about it.
 	So, he started planting trees in 2009. He worked together with hundreds of locals to successfully re-plant one of Senegal's largest mangrove forests.
 	It’s one of the largest mangrove replanting efforts in the world.

What are mangrove trees?

They are small trees with huge roots that grow near sea coastlines.
 	Mangrove trees are considered to be the best trees to remove carbon dioxide from the air.
 	They are also important to protect coastlines from tsunamis and cyclones.
 	Mangrove forests are also home to many different types of birds, animals and fishes.
