The annual Met Gala is a festival of fashion that honours the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This event is also widely referred to as the Met Ball or the Met Gala Ball.

• The fashion designers design and create a ‘look’ that is appropriate for the event’s theme. The ‘look’ essentially covers the dress and any accessories that go along with the dress. For example, shoes, jewellery, handbags etc.
• The theme for Met Gala 2022 was “An Anthology on Fashion”. It is inspired by the people, culture and clothes between the late 1800s and the turn of the century. It is also commonly referred to as the Gilded Age.

• This year at the Met Gala 2022, well-known American YouTuber Emma Chamberlain made her debut. She wore a Louis Vitton gown.
• On the other hand, Chamberlin’s selection of jewellery has been drawing greater notice on the internet this year. Particularly the diamond choker (close-fitting necklace) she wore.
• The diamond choker that Emma wore had previously belonged to the Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala.
• Emma has stated that the ancient piece of jewellery were all purchased from Cartier.

• Patiala Necklace was the name given to the necklace when it was first created in 1928.
• It is adorned with 2,930 diamonds and some Burmese rubies, and it features five rows of platinum chains.
• The centre of attention is given to the somewhat yellowish diamond that was cut by De Beers.
• This was the most expensive piece of jewellery that was ever manufactured in the history of the world.
• It was rumoured that the Maharaja had purchased the world’s largest diamond the year after it had been discovered in South Africa in 1888.
