National Energy Conservation Day – 14 December

Every year, December 14, 2021, is observed as the National Energy Conservation Day. The day aims to make people aware of issues focussed on our environment. These include global warming, climate change and using our valuable energy resources efficiently.

Have you ever thought, what happens to energy resources around us (like fuel, etc) if we use a lot of it in a short span?

What is energy conservation?

Energy conservation means avoiding unnecessary use of energy so that it does not finish and can be used in the future as well.

What is all about Energy Conservation Day?

  • National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated on 14 December every year in India.
  • The day is to highlight the importance of energy consumption and its use in our daily life.

How is it celebrated?

  • Various painting competitions will be organised at the school, state, and national levels on the day.
  • Prizes are distributed on 14 December for such competitions.
  • National Energy conservation awards are given to industries.
  • Several seminars and discussions will take place across the country to spread awareness of the conservation of energy.

How can we save energy?

  • We should rely on natural sunlight (solar power) more than electricity or other sources of energy.
  • We should always use ISI (Indian Standards Institute) standard electrical instruments.
  • We should unplug or switch off electronic products when not in use.
