New habitat pods can protect animals

Recommended for Middle Grades

Australian scientists have discovered new habitat pods to protect animals. We learnt how severe wildfires in Australia scared everyone. Now safehouses are being introduced.

What is a wildfire?

A wildfire is a large and destructive fire that spreads rapidly through the woods.

The habitat pods are designed like safe houses for small animals like rats, beetles, cockroaches and reptiles.

The scientists believed that the small animals might be in danger post the wildfire. They may fall prey to the predators if they get lost. Therefore, these habitat pods are made, for the protection of animals.

How are habitat pods made?

The habitat pods are basically designed as pyramids and have six sides. These pods are made of cardboard with a size of 60cm length and 60cm breadth. The cardboard house can be easily assembled.

The internal structure of the pods has three triangles that intersect at a central point. The intersection in the safe house creates spaces for both larger animals and provides nooks for smaller animals like beetles, cockroaches and lizards.

Moreover, there are holes to let the light enter the house. The habitat pods can be fixed with rocks, wooden logs or sandbags.
