New Parliament Building Ready for Inauguration!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Hey there, young reader! We’ve got some exciting news for you. The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, is all set to inaugurate a brand-new Parliament building on May 28th.

It’s going to be a grand event!

Important Details

  • This new Parliament building is quite impressive. It’s a four-storey structure that has been designed by talented architects from Ahmedabad and built by Tata Projects Limited. Guess how much it cost to construct? A whopping ₹970 crore! That’s a lot of zeros!
  • Now, here’s something interesting. The new Parliament will have more space to accommodate our representatives. In the old Parliament House, there were 543 seats for the Lok Sabha (the lower house) and 250 seats for the Rajya Sabha (the upper house).
  • But in the new building, the Lok Sabha will have 888 seats, and the Rajya Sabha will have 300 seats. That means more room for our MPs to discuss important matters and make decisions that affect our country.
  • One cool thing about the new Parliament is that there won’t be a separate Central Hall for joint sessions anymore. Instead, they’ll be held in the Lok Sabha, which can now hold up to 1,280 Members of Parliament at once! It’s like having a huge gathering of our leaders under one roof.
  • The timing of the inauguration is also special because it’s happening just two days after the Modi government completes nine years in office. It’s like a double celebration!
  • Oh, and did you know that the present Parliament building is almost 100 years old? It’s a historic landmark, but it’s become too small and outdated. That’s why everyone agreed that it was time to build a new one. The foundation stone for the new building was laid by Mr. Modi himself in December 2020, and now it’s finally ready!
  • So, get ready for the monsoon session of Parliament, which will be held in this fantastic new building. It’s a symbol of progress and modernity for our country. Let’s cheer for our leaders as they work together to make India even better!
